Comparison Set: The Who Of Your Analysis

Comparison Search This is the search bar located in the top right of your screen that can be used to add institutions and groups (EX: peer groups, mergers, banks, and CUs) to your comparison set.
Comparison Set Your Comparison Set consists of the institutions and peer groups you have selected to gather information on.
Custom Merger A quasi-institution that consists of a combination of 2 or more institutions’ call report data; used to conduct merger analysis research.
Custom Peer Group This is a type of Peer Group where the user selects unique data points to narrow down a comparison group. EX: by geographic region, asset-based, or other metrics
Inactive(s) Institutions no longer in operation but who we have historical data for. Noted by a dagger symbol next to the institution’s name.
Peer Group A peer group consists of institutions that share similar characteristics and can allow you to compare your performance against the weighted average of others. Peer Suite's pre-built peer groups are based on NCUA-defined Asset Bands.
Primary The institution you compare against other institutions and peer groups in your comparison set. Located in the farthest left position in your comparison set and is shaded navy.
Temporary Primary Single-clicking on an institution/group other than your primary in your comparison set will allow you to view data for that institution/group in displays where data is only provided for one institution (EX: Pie charts & the credit union profile). Peer Suite will revert to your original primary at the start of your next session.

The What: The Metrics You're Looking to Explore (Displays)

2-year Financial Comparison Report Shows income statement and balance sheet data for 2 years in order to analyze a credit union's year-over-year performance.
Built-in These are displays that are built and maintained by Callahan and come preloaded in Peer Suite, including dashboards, performance reports, and +300 displays.
Canvas The area in Peer Suite where displays are visualized.
Chart (Display) A type of display that features a visual depiction of data.
Credit Union Scorecard ~100 performance ratios detailing a credit union's performance in terms of loan portfolios, efficiencies, member participation, income statements, and more. It shows one column for each item in the comparison set to provide a comparative context for each institution.
CU Performance Reports Pre-formatted reports that analyze a credit union's performance.
Dashboard A collection of displays intended to tell the story of a particular topic. Displays within pre-built Dashboards feature ratio definitions, performance analysis, and a percentile-based star ranking.
Folder A container for lists & displays that allows for the storage, sorting, and management of them.
List Lists are used to take who you are analyzing or researching and display the information about those institutions you'd like to know more about (such as address of HQ, contact information, executives, and financial metrics).
Period (Cycle) The date(s) you are viewing data for. Editable within the Display Modifications Toolbar. Defaults to the date of the most recent data release with a five-year lookback.
Shortcut A tool within Peer Suite used to “favorite” displays. Once a shortcut has been added, the display will be available in the My Displays section of the My Projects folder. These displays are directly linked to the original and are maintained by Callahan but are not editable.
Table (Display) A type of display that features an arrangement of information or data, in rows and columns.
Technology Partners Proprietary data, collected by Callahan, on credit unions' technology partners.
Technology Services 13 member-facing technology services self-reported by credit unions.

Data & Customization

5300 Call Report The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) 5300 Call Report is a quarterly financial reporting document used by credit unions in the US to provide detailed information about their financial condition and performance. This report includes data on a credit union's balance sheet, income statement, and various financial ratios. This is the main source of data used to drive Peer Suite.
Account Code Used to uniquely identify specific categories or data points. Add an “A” to the beginning of account codes from the 5300 Call Report to use them in custom displays or peer group creation.
Defined Facts/ Smart Codes These are the shorthand metrics and formulas maintained by Callahan’s analysts (EX: ‘Efficiency’ for the efficiency ratio formula).
FFIEC Call Report The Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) Call Report, or Consolidated Reports of Condition and Income, is a regulatory financial report filed by banks and other financial institutions in the United States. It provides detailed information about a bank's financial condition, including its income, assets, liabilities, and capital adequacy.
FirstLook Callahan’s early data program, where up to 99% of the industry’s 5300 data is available weeks ahead of the NCUA’s official release.
Formulas A concise mathematical expression used to perform calculations on data for insights and decision-making.
Functions Functions are a way to simplify more complex formulas. You can use these commands when you create custom displays in Peer Suite to modify account codes. (EX: Growth)
HMDA Data Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) data is a detailed record of who gets home loans, where these loans are given, the types of loans, lender information, and loan pricing. It's a tool to ensure fair lending practices and transparency in the mortgage industry.
Operators Operators encompass mathematical symbols like +, -, /, *, ^, as well as specialized ones unique to Callahan (:). These operators serve as building blocks to craft formulas that compute sums, variances, ratios, remainders, and various other calculations.
