Bank Data Updates FAQ

Callahan is enhancing your experience using bank data in Peer Suite. As a result of this update, custom displays you frequently use to analyze bank data may not work as expected.

Learn more about the bank data available in Peer Suite by exploring our Bank Data Overview.

How are Callahan’s Smart Codes Affected?

  • We’ve introduced new Bank Smart Codes to streamline your analysis. View the complete list of these new Bank Smart Codes listed HERE along side their credit union equivalents.

Peer Pointer!

A Bank Smart Code simplifies your experience by replacing complex formulas or single codes with easy-to-remember keywords. For instance, instead of trying to remember the code RCON8274 for net worth, you can simply use the designated Bank Smart Code: “bnet_worth.”

How Can I Identify Bank Smart Codes?

  • You can differentiate between a credit union Smart Code and a bank Smart Code by looking for a "b" at the beginning of the bank code.
      • loans = Credit Union Smart Code
      • bloans = Bank Smart Code

How Will This Affect Built-in Displays?

  • Callahan Analysts are updating all. The formula tab at the bottom of displays with in the Bank Comparisons folder is a great resource exploring bank formulas.

How Will This Affect My Custom Displays?

  • Displays you've created for analyzing banks, or comparing credit unions and banks, will need updates. To ensure accuracy:
  • Each code type only pulls data from its respective dataset, so using the right code is essential for accurate analysis.
    • Callahan analysts have also curated this list of common formulas to aid in your updates.

Are There Any Exceptions?

  • Yes! The Smart Codes assets and ave_assets work for both credit unions and banks.

Why Can't I Find An Equivalent Code Banks That I Use for Credit Unions?

  • The short answer: it might not exist. Since credit unions and banks report data differently, there isn’t always a direct one-to-one match for every code or formula. If you have questions, feel free to reach out at analystsupport@callahan.com.

How can I view a Bank Smart Codes alongside a Credit Union Smart Codes for the same metric in a custom display?

  • You can create a formula using two compatible metrics.
    • For Example:
      • To compare Return on Assets for both banks and credit unions, add the formula bROA+ROA to your custom display. This will show you data for bROA (banks) and ROA (credit unions) side by side.
  • The common formulas glossary contains a curated list of just such formulas to aid in your analysis.

Does This Affect Peer Groups?

  • Yes, Callahan analysts will manually update all existing peer groups that use Bank Codes. Going forward, bank peer groups will only be compatible with bank codes. The only exception being the smart codes assets and ave_assets.

Will These Updates Apply to Both Peer Classic and Peer Suite?

  • Yes, These new codes will be active across both platforms and Callahan Analysts will update formulas for all built-in displays in both Peer Classic and Peer Suite.

Need Help?

  • If analyst hours are included in your subscription, contact your account manager to coordinate having the Callahan team update the displays for you.
